Regulatory and Professional Discipline

Members of Chambers provide specialist advice and representation in regulatory and professional disciplinary proceedings, acting both for regulators and for individual professionals facing investigation or prosecution. Members are experienced in guiding clients from the earliest stages of internal inquiry, through interim orders and case preparation, to contested final hearings and appellate challenges by way of judicial review or statutory appeal.
Members have been instructed to appear before a wide range of professional regulators and disciplinary bodies, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Social Work England (SWE), the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), and the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA). They also regularly act in proceedings before university and college disciplinary boards across the UK and abroad, including cases raising complex issues of academic freedom, and freedom of expression.
Reflecting Chambers’ international orientation, members bring particular expertise in regulatory, disciplinary and staff‑related disputes involving UN entities, international courts and tribunals, and other organisations in the Hague, Geneva, Brussels and beyond. With specialist collective expertise across a broad spectrum of international employment structures, Chambers is well-placed to offer advice and representation in internal disciplinary proceedings, administrative appeals, and employment‑related disputes within the internal justice mechanisms of the UN system and comparable bodies.
