International Arbitration: Ukraine wins in multibillion Energy Charter Treaty Dispute
It has been reported that an arbitral dispute under the Energy Charter between a collection of entities and the Ukraine has come to an end.
The three entities all associated with the Ukrainian Oligarch Igor Kolomoisky were unable to continue their proceedings against Ukraine after the latter successfully saw off a bid for a hearing by the Swedish Supreme Court.

INTERPOL: UN expert condemns El Salvador over alleged misuse of INTERPOL Red Notices
It has been reported that UN experts have condemned El Salvador for the issuance of Red Notices against Ivania Cruz and Rudy Joya, two exiles in Spain who are noted Salvadoran human rights defenders.
Both Red Notices have been described as appearing “to be without basis and in direct connection with their legitimate human rights work for UNIDEHC”. They were issued in July 2025.
Both fled El Salvador because of their human rights work.
Those familiar with INTERPOL and the Red Notice system will be aware that Article 3 of the ICPO-INTERPOL Constitution explicitly prohibits the organisation “to undertake any intervention or activities of a political…character.”

Blog Corner: “Demonstrating the Future of War: Tech Companies and Claims of Epistemic Authority on Military AI”
An article by Dr Robin Vanderborght and Dr Anna Nadibaidze of the Universities of Antwerp and Southern Denmark will be of interest to practitioners and academic experts on humanitarian law and the effect of AI and ‘epistemic authority’ so-called in the context of war.
They provide an analysis of a talk given by the founder of the defence technology company Anduril Industries at TED2025, and what the future use of AI may look like in the context of military use.

Israel & Palestine: UN Body passes resolution
The UN Security Council has voted in favour of a US-drafted resolution that bolsters Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan. This includes the deployment of an international force and a possible path for Palestine as a state.
The US President hailed the vote as: “one of the biggest approvals in the history of the United Nations”.
13 votes were made in favour of the text, with only Russia and China abstaining.
The text also provides for the formation of a board of peace that will serve as a transitional governing body for Gaza that will be chaired by President Donald Trump with a mandate until 2027.

International Criminal Law: Bangladesh’s ousted former Prime Minister sentenced to Death
Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been found guilty of allowing lethal force to be used against protesters, 1,400 of whom died during unrest last year.
Hasina was tried in absentia by the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh having been exiled in India since July 2024 after she was ousted from power.
UN human rights investigators have stated in a report from February that the deaths could amount to “crimes against humanity”.
Toby Cadman, Co-Head of Guernica 37 Chambers acted as special adviser to the Bangladeshi chief prosecutor.
