Chambers is Delighted to Announce that Lucia Brieskova has Joined as a New Member

Chambers is delighted to welcome Lucia Brieskova back to Chambers. Lucia was previously a legal associate in Chambers prior to completing her pupillage in another leading set of Chambers in the areas of general crime, youth court work, and extradition.

Lucia is a member of the Bar of England and Wales and joined Chambers at the beginning of June 2021.

Lucia accepts instructions in all Chambers’ practice areas, including domestic criminal law, extradition, international law, EU law and human rights law.

During her pupillage Lucia practiced in the areas of general crime, youth court work, and extradition. She defended and prosecuted regularly in the Magistrates' Courts and was developing a Crown Court practice. Her defence and prosecution practice extended from minor offences to serious and complex offences and issues including domestic violence, assaulting emergency worker, burglary, robbery, drug dealing and modern slavery. Lucia appeared in her own right in several hearings relating to extradition proceedings, and contributed, in a number of posts, to Extradition Hub on CrimeLine. She also worked on cases with international law elements such as human trafficking and complaints brought before the United Nations Human Rights Committee.

Lucia completed her BPTC in July 2019, having been awarded a substantial Inner Temple scholarship. At the same time, Lucia worked at Guernica 37 as a legal associate. She was involved in several high-profile cases before domestic, European, and international courts and human rights bodies. She drafted submissions, reports and legal advices on many international, EU, arbitration, and human rights law issues and countries such as Egypt, Syria, Bangladesh, Myanmar and others.

In 2017, Lucia was awarded a PhD degree in International and European Human Rights Law. Whilst doing her PhD, she took up a position as an assistant lawyer to the legal adviser of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in France, where she worked on many pressing human rights and international law-related issues such as the crisis in Ukraine and foreign terrorist fighters. Previously, Lucia was an intern in the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg in Chambers of Advocate General Juliane Kokott and Judge Daniel Svaby. ​ Following her Master’s degree studies in France, Lucia spent four years working as a senior paralegal in the crime team in a large firm of solicitors based in Oxford, where she was running her own busy Crown Court caseload. Having obtained police station adviser accreditation, she represented clients in the police station during their interviews in relation to a wide range of offences including robbery and rape.
