Serbia – 16 November 2022

The trial in absentia of four former high-ranking Croatian Air Force officers accused of bombing a convoy of Serb refugees in August 1995 should start at the end of December in Belgrade. The full article can be found here.


Montenegro – 16 November 2022

President Milo Djukanovic is blocking the appointment of ambassadors to roughly half of the country’s embassies, in a damaging tug-of-war with the government. The full article can be found here.


Moldova – 16 November 2022

Moldova’s foreign minister said the country’s energy security is at risk after blackouts were caused by Russian missile strikes on energy infrastructure targets in neighbouring Ukraine. The full article can be found here.

The sexual exploitation of children has led to several arrests in Romania and Bosnia, while internet media have continued to spread fake news and promote misleading anti-EU campaigns. The full article can be found here.

The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network has published an interactive map providing detailed information about scores of far right and extremist organisations in six countries in the Balkans. The full article can be found here.


Bulgaria – 15 November 2022

Bulgaria's prosecution said it is investigating what it believes was the suicide of Nuredin Kafelov, four-time mayor of the small town of Yakoruda, who was being probed for possible conflicts of interest. The full article can be found here.


Serbia – 14 November 2022

NATO strengthens political dialogue with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Javier Colomina completed a trip to Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina where he held multiple talks with members of Government. Kosovo – 11 November 2022 Serb ex-policeman Zoran Vukotic was sentenced to ten years in prison for committing rape and participating in the expulsions of ethnic Albanian civilians during the Kosovo war in 1999. The full article can be found here.
