Introduction
Najib completed his pupillage in Chambers in 2018 and following a period as a third six pupil accepted an invitation to join as a tenant in 2020. He specialises in criminal law, immigration law, international law with a particular focus on Islamic Finance Law.
Current work
Najib is involved in a wide range of domestic cases including criminal trials, appeals, immigration appeals and judicial reviews. He also has extensive experience in international arbitration, global Islamic finance practice, advising Islamic banks, financial institutions and businesses on a wide range of Shariah-compliant transactions in the areas of syndicated finance, project finance and asset-backed structured finance.
He has significant experience in Sukuk structures, trade finance and real estate transactions.
Previous experience
As an Associate of a Legal500 international law firm, Najib dealt with several multinational organisations and negotiated on behalf of them at both governmental and non-governmental levels. He offered a record of achievement in the areas of syndicated financing, Islamic financing, international agreements, and defending the legality of various Islamic financial instruments. He also worked as an International criminal lawyer at an international war crimes tribunal.
Najib also worked as a part time lecturer at the International Islamic University in Chittagong, Bangladesh and has a number of academic publications.
